What's on the workbench? ... Wheely Machine

Here’s an early look at a patch on the workbench inspired by the Alexandernaut Fugue Machine. It’s not a compete recreation of the Fugue Machine. It has a lot of similar characteristics but also a few things the FM does not have. This patch is near the end of the proof of concept phase .. it needs UI work but most of the behaviors are in place. A good time to share progress anyway.

The patch has 3 step sequencers driven by a common clock (cycle). Each step sequencer has a clock rate modifier allowing it to run at a different multiple of the common clock so that all 3 sequencers can be run in lock step or with individual relative or syncopated times.

Sequencer direction can be forward, reverse, ping pong, random, or random walk. Sequencers have a hocket factor that delays the sequencer output a portion of the step size producing output that alternates between sequencers. A sequencer that is hocketing produces its notes between the notes of a sequencer that is not.

The velocity management is still a work in progress. The idea is to have a common velocity sequence and give each note sequencer a knob that can dampen the velocity to allow some sequencers to have more prominent output than others. On the list, just have not gotten around to it yet.

Four MIDI scale quantizers provide a way to quickly change the key/tome family of the sequenced output. Good for introducing mood changes while the sequences are running.

I’m considering making the various parts (clock, sequencer, scale quantizer) into rack elements .. not decided yet.

seams a easy to use sequencer most modern ones have to much options imo where you pretty much need to become a rocket scientist to use it

i like it so far

does it have probability?

There are a few places where probability is introduced. The sequencers can run in Random and Random Walk directions so that the sequences themselves become random. There is an Octave Up chance that sets the probability of an octave up on each note. The Velocity Chaos knob sets a range of variability for the values from the velocity sequencer. A Density knob sets the probability of notes being emitted or silenced after being sequenced. A Humanize knob adds a subtle timing variation to the output stream.

nice sound like something i would use
