Greetings,
Rain Garden is now available on the Hub. I have been working this for a while and am at the point where some community feedback would be helpful to steer further development.
Rain Garden is inspired by the Soma Labs COSMOS pedal and falls squarely into ambient Frippertronics land. Rain Garden consists of 4 stereo crossfeed capable loopers with individual Pan and Wow/Flutter FX, that are summed and fed into a bank of 4 stereo delays inspired by the Yamaha UD Stomp pedal.
Loop time is set by selecting a primary loop time (up to 30 seconds) and a loop length spread. The primary looper gets the selected loop time. The remaining 3 non-primary loopers are assigned a range of shorter loop times approximating relative prime lengths based on the primary loop length and the loop length spread. Tempo sync not supported. De-synchronized loops are fundamental to the textural evolution in Rain Garden.
The dry input is recorded to all 4 loopers simultaneously. The feedback setting controls how much of the previously recorded material remains in the buffer on each pass. The crossfeed setting controls how much of the looper outpus are crossfed as input to neighbor loopers. Loopers 1 and 2 crossfeed each other. Loopers 3 and 4 crossfeed each other. The combined output of loopers 1&2 also crossfeed the inp[ut to loopers 3&4, and vice versa. Be careful with the crossfeed control. Too much crossfeed can result in frequency buildup depending on the recorded material.
To record, select a primary loop length and length spread. Press the Record button, and just play. The loops will auto switch into Overdub mode when they reach their configured time limits. Lowering feedback to less than 1.0 while recording fades out old material as new material fades in. Instant Frippertronics.
Recording a long stream of material and letting it devolve and texturize is a great way to make long ambient pad-like textures. Add Wow/Flutter, adjust the playback speed, change direction, apply filters, manipulate feedback and crossfeed amounts. Over time the original material blurs and blends into an audio soup which can be quite calming.
The radio buttons next to the Crossfeed control select which looper FX are included in the cross-feedback path.
I should do a full writeup on the controls and internal architecture, too long for a single post. Probably some videos too.
This is the baby beta version of Rain Garden. There are areas for improvement. Comments and critiques warmly welcomed ![]()
CPU is around 6-7% on my machine.
