Convolver CPU usage seems very high

Probably not a bug but seems unusual…

I compared MNodes convolver to Reaper Reaverb and the MNodes convolution seems to eat huge amounts of CPU.

Both tested using a 44.1kHz IR of a 99 second reverb from a Yamaha SPX90ii…

  • Around 12% CPU and 1.4% RTCPU, looping a 4-bar midi through Steinberg Model-E and neither enabled
  • With Reaverb only enabled no real difference, maybe 1% tops
  • With MNodes only enabled, 16% CPU and 230% RTCPU, actually slowing Reaper playback down.

I know Reaverb is a stock Reaper plugin so might have some advantages but 200x worse performance seems wrong? Reaverb is listed under VST though so presumably lives in a VST wrapper.

Will look for some other free VST IR loaders to compare

Update:

Just tried Convology XT VST3 and it’s about the same as Reaverb, no real difference.

Additionally I noticed CPU use scales with the IR size in MNodes
