Any way to create a 'stepic' like step sequencer within Mnodes?

Ive got the excellent Harmony Blooms (Which is great for longer running generative ambient I sometimes attempt).

Anyone figured out how to build/create a more traditional step sequencer (ala stepic)? I’m not overly active in the forums, so quite possibly a very stupid question..but I’ll ask it anyway.

Have a great day/night.

Hey @Beginnings,

No problem at all, feel free to ask whatever you need, especially since I still have several tutorials to make that will explain MNodes in more depth.

And yes, you have plenty of options for building a MIDI sequencer, whether it’s something like Steptic or something completely different.

As a starting point, I’d suggest taking a look at the MIDI Riff Generator node. It generates MIDI, so if you send its output through a MIDI Scale node and then into your DAW, you already have a sequencer capable of generating riffs. It also has plenty of parameters for randomization, changing note duration, and more.

But as I mentioned, there are many other ways to build MIDI generators and sequencers in MNodes.

If you have any questions, just leave them here.

Hey Mario.

Thanks for taking the time out to respond and give me some starters :).

I’ll have a look into this. I have Bitwig which also has the Grid (always scared the crap out of me when I’ve looked at it)..and marvelled at what talented people can achieve with such modular nodes. I’ll try to overcome my node fear and have a play around with this.

Thank you very much.

The cool thing is to start with something small, using just a few nodes. Once you understand the logic behind it, building things becomes super fun

Audi-Lego

I know all about that, if some like Polarity are publishing there videos with

Then you thinking, well.. someday.. or.. next year…

Now as all, just start small.. i played around with it and okay, its fun.. not really completely my interest even do i like some sequencing but i don’t have euro rack gear, i rather sequence something as Stepic.

Now everything has a learning curve.

A project which i was working on, one of my first MNode try-outs was

If i look back it now, i feel a bit different about it.. the design is from the 1940’s or so. but you start to learn things. As even MNode is evolving so are your capabilities to design the code behind it.

Currently i am not active on this project, i want to redesign it.. implement all the things i learned from my latest big project. That is:

In ~3 months i learned a lot, even started to work with Blender to make my custom 3D knobs and with a program like Affinity to use SVG’s or create the PNG’s.

But it doesn’t have to be this way, you can start verry simple.. design the basics, use the nodes as pure as they are.. make things work, and then think about how to design.

It only needs a few things : Take your time, small steps, ask questions. You will even get example projects to see how things work if you cant figure it out.

I personally, if i can.. i always help out.. sometimes i don’t understand something, even that i am trying to figure out what the solution could or would be.

Now i don’t hope to scare you away with my designs.. but remember.. i started out like:

or :

Just equal that ugly, but there it starts..

So whatever is on your mind, stupid or silly questions which in my opinion does not exist, just ask.. talk about it. you will get there, it just takes a bit of time to learn. like anything.

Thanks Danny. Learn to crawl, before you can walk!! And lets face it..there is no harm in doing small and then if you add something and it goes wrong, few steps back and continue!
